About Aasif Sheikh

Aasif Sheikh is a Nepal international wicketkeeper-batter who bats right-handed. The ICC player profile lists him as a wicketkeeper and records his international career debut year as 2021.

Born on 22 June 2001, Sheikh made an immediate impression on T20I debut with an unbeaten 54 against the Netherlands in 2021, according to ESPNcricinfo's player biography. That start established him as an opening option as well as a wicketkeeper.

He adapted quickly to one-day cricket: ESPNcricinfo records a fluent 90 against Oman in his fourth ODI, five months after his T20I debut. The same profile says his first ODI century came against Papua New Guinea in 2023, when he finished as Nepal's leading ODI run-scorer with 595 runs.

Sheikh's defining fair-play moment came against Ireland in the Oman Quadrangular T20I Series on 14 February 2022. After bowler Kamal Singh Airee collided with non-striker Andy McBrine, the throw reached Sheikh with McBrine short of his crease; Sheikh chose not to remove the bails.

The ICC named Sheikh the recipient of its 2022 Spirit of Cricket Award on 26 January 2023, making him the first player from Nepal to win it. MCC also records that the same act later received its separate 2022 Christopher Martin-Jenkins Spirit of Cricket Award; the two awards should not be conflated. This fair play profile keeps the award's official name—ICC Spirit of Cricket Award—rather than treating it as the IPL's team prize.
